The exodus of Moroccan nurses to Quebec continues

-

Between November 2021 and the end of May, some 400 Moroccan nurses have chosen to immigrate to Quebec, thus aggravating the staff shortage that plagues the health system in Morocco.

This exodus of Moroccan executives is facilitated each year by the Journées Québec missions, which are organized in the kingdom, reports Hespress, adding that the province intends to recruit 3,000 new foreign workers by March 2023.

Meanwhile, Morocco faces a severe shortage of qualified nurses. This need is estimated at more than 50,000 professionals, according to the Ministry of Health and at 34,000 according to the Movement of Nurses and Health Technicians of Morocco (MITSM).

Questioned, Fatima-Zahra Belline, member of MITSM, said she was “shocked” by this figure, stressing that it is a real phenomenon which is increasing day by day. And to add that “within the Movement, we have repeatedly sounded the alarm on this scourge of exodus of nurses. In this sense, we have called on officials to look into this category of health executives since their main complaint, which is pushing them to flee the country, will cost the State nothing. »

To explain this brain drain, the manager denounces a climate of “congestion” and unfavorable working conditions. “It is not the poor working conditions, or even the mediocre salaries that this category of health executives receives that pushes them to flee the country. But rather the legal proceedings against them. They risk at any time, because of the weak legal arsenal which regulates the profession, of ending up behind bars, ”she lamented.
