While Algeria’s severance of diplomatic relations with Morocco does not concern the consular aspect, an Algerian senator called on Algiers to impose visas on Moroccans.
The call for the visa is made by FLN Senator Abdelwahab Benzaim. “Because there is Israel in Morocco, I want the visa to be introduced for Moroccans,” he said. This request aims to prevent the many Israelis of Moroccan origin who can now travel freely to Morocco from coming to Algeria directly.
“It’s a precaution. All Moroccans who come have two hats: Israeli and Moroccan. An Israeli cannot apply for a visa to Algeria from Israel. But if he is in Morocco and he (also has Moroccan nationality), he can come to Algeria directly. […] We must be careful and all those who return to Algeria from Morocco must be entered in a red box, ”added the Algerian senator.
Since 2004, Algerians are not subject to the visa requirement to enter Morocco. It is the same for Moroccans.
