More than 70% of Moroccan teachers use WhatsApp

The WhatsApp messaging system is used by 70.4% of Moroccan teachers, says the Higher Council for Education, Training and Scientific Research (INE-CSEFRS).

Only some 21.3% of teachers said they had actually used the Telmid-Tice platform developed by the Ministry of National Education, reveals a study by the center on “teaching in the time of Covid”, specifying that the tool widely used by teachers and students, to ensure remote pedagogical continuity is WhatsApp.

This study aims “to identify the practices, opportunities and challenges at the educational level during the pandemic”, it is indicated, noting that the entry of digital in education has strongly disrupted teaching during the confinement.

According to the results, a good part of the teachers (13.5%) do not master the computer tool and 67.1% have an average level. Despite this, “teachers have largely demonstrated their involvement in ensuring pedagogical continuity, since 82.6% have practiced distance education during confinement, using their personal equipment,” notes the center.

In addition, the study concluded that “if the disparities existed before the pandemic period between backgrounds and social strata, distance education exacerbated them and revealed the exclusion of rural students and families. disadvantaged ”and particularly the exclusion of girls who“ were called upon more for household chores to the detriment of their schooling ”.
