Seven out of 10 young Moroccans want to emigrate to Europe

Emigration has become the choice of seven out of 10 young Moroccans due in part to the unemployment problem they face. This is what a study carried out by the National Observatory for Human Development (ONDH) in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) reveals.

Seven in ten young people believe that they would be happier if they went to Europe, where they will be able to obtain economic opportunities. Morocco is therefore the country with the highest percentage of young people seeking to emigrate. This desire for elsewhere is explained by the socio-economic problems, particularly the unemployment they face.

In Morocco, this affects around 12% of the population but is much higher among young people (31%), university graduates (18.7%) and women in all age groups (16.5%).

Morocco is Europe’s entry point for migrants. Each year, many migrants from sub-Saharan Africa and young Moroccans seek to reach the old continent via Spain, just 20 kilometers from Morocco.
