Theft of neighbours’ WiFi: Morocco, the only African country, in the top 5

Morocco is the only African country appearing in the ranking of countries that use the Wi-Fi network of its neighbours. This is revealed by a study conducted by the Global Consumer Survey of the German statistics platform Statista.

With a positive response rate of 9% of the population, Moroccans and Swiss occupy 4ᵉ place in the ranking of countries that use the WiFi network of its neighbors. Morocco is the only African country in this ranking. This is explained by the fact that it is the country with the highest internet penetration rate in Africa.

The champions of this practice are the Europeans. The Dutch and the Belgians (16%) top the top 3, followed by the Mexicans who reach 14%. “This is more than double the share measured in neighboring countries, France and Germany, where respectively 6% and 7% of Internet users admit to entering a wireless network located nearby”, notes Statista. “We note that it is overall Europeans who are the most fond of this practice, while the United States and China have the lowest rates of Internet users using neighbors’ Wi-Fi (respectively 3% and 2% )”, further indicates the German company.

Statista carried out this survey of adults between 2021 and 2022 in several countries and had between 1,000 and 7,000 respondents.
